A Walk Over Newport Transporter Bridge
Today I found myself working adjacent to the Bridge and the sun was shining although it was hazy and not ideal for photography but what the hell, I wasn’t going to put it off again. And boy was it worth it. It’s a magnificent structure that dominates Newport and being up close to it as you climb to the top you can feel it’s history and see close up how it’s built and put together. The view just gets better and better as you climb too. On the top gantry you feel very exposed despite the solid steel railings. The open grating beneath your feet allows views to the choppy waters of The Usk below and is a little disconcerting at first but any concerns quickly disappear as you take in the panorama of Newport. I’ll definitely be going back but will be picking a clear day next time.
The Newport Council staff who are happy to share their knowledge of the bridge with anyone willing to chat.
The choppy waters of the muddy River Usk clearly visible through the open grating beneath your feet.
The upper gantry appears suspended over Pill.
The steel wires supporting The Bridge stretch down to their anchor points in Pill, way below.
