Twenty Years Of Mediaphotos”. No:16.
With Daniel Craig being in the news at the moment after revealing he is to star in another James Bond movie I thought it opportune to publish this image. Not the greatest of pictures, direct flash and I’ve reproduced it in black and white as the picture was shot on a Nikon D1 camera which was not renown for it’s ability to reproduce colour faithfully. The picture is a posed snatch as Daniel Craig arrived for The UK Premiere of Hotel Splendide at The Cameo Cinema, Edinburgh, as part of the Edinburgh Film Festival, August 2000.
I was working for the The Herald and Scottish Sun and had been sent to photograph the stars of the movie arriving at the cinema. I was the only photographer there at what was a very low key event, not even a PR person, just me hanging around outside the cinema, which proved a little problematical for me as at that time I didn’t know Daniel Craig from Adam. I did however know his co-star Stephen Tomkinson and managed to photograph him as he arrived in a taxi with his partner. I really don’t remember how I spotted Daniel Craig arriving, maybe Stephen had given me the nod.
Anyway Daniel arrived and I asked for a couple of pictures as he entered the cinema. He duly obliged and this is the resulting image. As I say not earth shattering but my picture of someone who was to become a huge movie star and someone who would receive a lot more attention now turning up for film premiere.
