It doesn't seem possible that it's twenty years since Trish and I started Mediaphotos. Looking through the archive to choose pictures to use in these celebration posts has brought back so many memories for us both.
In the early years we were still shooting on film with lots of wet processing in the house to meet newspaper deadlines. Lots of scanning on computers that by today's standards were positively clockwork followed by even more time sending pictures via very slow modem connections to picture desks around the country. Working for ourselves meant the work didn't stop on completion of the job, there was still all the invoicing and accounts to be kept in order as well.
It was a steep learning curve for both of us. I'd worked for twenty plus years as a staff photographer and picture editor before starting the business but for Trish in particular she very quickly had to get up to speed with both the photography and the technology. She took it all onboard and coped amazingly and we wouldn't be where we are today without that huge commitment in the early years.
This picture in particular reminds me of the long busy days and nights of The Edinburgh Festival season, our busiest time of the year. For two months of the year we had little time for sleep with early starts and late finishes being the norm but the satisfaction at the end of the season was immense. Great times.
No:3 in the series is this shot of Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons with Bender a character from his new series Futurama, against backdrop of Edinburgh old town taken in 1999.
